Wait….Don’t You Already Have A Blog?

Well, technically yes, I do. For another month or so.

If you’ve followed me on my old blog, Sparkles, Lace & Sequins, you probably noticed that I became a bit absent there and on social media in recent months. The truth is, I was struggling with inspiration, motivation, and constantly feeling like I had to be buying something new in order to remain relevant in the fashion blogging world. In short, all of the things I loved about that world became a chore instead of a passion.

Had it not been for circumstances in my personal life, I probably would have slogged on a while more. But moving my father into long-term care for dementia, along with being a busy mom and trying to balance my full-time career made it impossible to continue. And I’m actually pretty grateful for that.

My last blog post on SLS was in April. My last Instagram post was in May. And two months later, I’ve finally realized what I needed to do to be re-inspired and it was a simple as looking in my own closet.

I need to stop shopping all the time and wear the things I have and love.

One of the last items I bought before my break was this perfect striped sweater. Classics will be a must from now on.

That’s not to say I’m not planning to shop at all - I recently stocked up on some skincare faves, bought some denim cut-offs, and yesterday, picked up a pair of linen pants and a black blouse that is perfect for work, both on sale. But none of those were the “whim” purchases I used to make. They were staples I either needed or classics I knew I’d wear again and again.

And that’s the point of Emily On Repeat - outfits on repeat, beauty on repeat, etc. etc. Find the things you love and wear the heck out of them.

I have no idea yet how often I’ll post, on here, on Instagram - the constant pressure to create was wearing me down. But after a few months of NOT doing this, I know that I do miss it. But from now on, it’s going to be solely on my terms and not because I feel pressure from this industry.

And I hope that will make this even more authentic than Sparkles, Lace & Sequins was.
